GOMAR
Mohammad GOMAR Iraki, born in Diala (Irak), he received his diploma
of musicology from the University of Baghdad.For the past few years,
he settled in Utrecht (Netherlands). Considered as the successor to
the greats, and reveals his mastery of the jôza, a very difficult
instrument to play. The jôza is a spiked fiddle, which has four strings
played by a bow. The body is made from half a coconut, which its name
come from (jôza means nut in dialect). The instrument has an acid
and nasal sound that is inimitable in the maqâm, and helps the singer
to always find his voice in the mode.
