Husayn
Ismaïl Al-Azami
Born in 1952, in a musician's family, son of a famous hymnodist. Initiated
by his father to coranic cantillation, he starts his career in 1972.
He studied musicology at the Baghdad University, and has always defended
the colors of the scholorly music of his country. He is the most distinguished
representative of the finest tradition embodied before him by Nâzim
al-Ghazali, Yűsuf Umar et Muhammad al-Qubbânji, amongst
other specifities dramatic modulations in his vocal interpretation,
a quality in tone close to falsetti and codified sobbings. He met
J.J. Weiss in 1986 and they played together number of concerts in
Irak (Babylon Festival) and in Europe.
